Transitional Kindergarten Program

ACADEMICS

Our transitional kindergarten (TK) program is designed to prepare our youngest students in a loving, fun, and nurturing environment for their future in school. TK is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen a child’s development and skills before kindergarten. Social skills through the lens of God’s Word will be taught with an emphasis on helping students understand that they are children of God and members of the body of Christ.  Language arts will focus on letter and sound recognition, sight words, and rhyming and introduce all pre-reading skills.  In math, students will focus on number recognition, counting, shapes, patterns, basic addition and subtraction, and more. Fine motor skills will be practiced creatively through art, crafts, and hands-on activities. We look forward to preparing our students for kindergarten by helping them grow academically, spiritually, and socially.

Learning to worship God and love Jesus is an integral part of the curriculum.  Daily Bible lessons and weekly chapels lead to understanding the Christian faith's TK stresses pre-reading and pre-literacy skills such as alphabet recognition, sound association, sequencing, left-to-right progression, visual discrimination, following directions, listening, literature, auditory discrimination, and much more.  Eye tracking and other small and large motor skills develop. It is essential that students gain an understanding of the patterns and meaning in exploring the meaning of the many facets of math in daily life, explores science and social studies, and are affirmed in their creativity through a variety of experiences in music and art.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a step down from kindergarten. This bonus year is explicitly designed for slightly younger students, having just barely missed the kindergarten cut-off, and/or for slightly less mature students than their same-age peers. Students in TK typically have birthdays between June and December, turning five shortly before or after the traditional school year begins.
